Any good car auctions?

Q) Just started out in the motor trade and im asking if anyone knows of any good motor auctions, CHEAP as poss with good cars, also any good online motor auctions apart from the obvious ebay, cheers? as many as possible pls.

A) You didn't even give a hint about where you live. I live near Washington, DC and there is a big auction place there with a big sign painted on the wall outside, but for some reason they aren't even listed in the phone book. You can get a car there for about 1/3 of what you would pay for it elsewhere. That's where used car dealers get cars, not on line. Leave your computer at home. There are other auctions outside of town as well. Ask a used car dealer where to find them. You don't even get to test drive the car, but if it has an obvious problem like a bad transmission, they'll tell you about it. In addition to the purchase price, you have to pay a fee to the auction house. How you get it home with no tags or insurance is up to you.

what does the buyers fee cover at car auctions?

Q) I have someone coming to buy a car tonight (I am a dealer) and he wants to be sure that the car is hpi clear. I said that the buyers fee I paid at the auction house covers this as I know from reading it on the t & c's in the auction hall but do not have anything in writing to show him. He sounds really awkward and to me is a tight bastard for not paying £30 to check the car himself! As a trader, I do not particularly wish to show the buyer my invoice from the auction house. It is my business to make a profit but not let anyone but myself and my accountant know my profit margin. (Which is £1000 btw!!) Also the car is not a wreck, it is a legitimate BMW Z3 in excellent condition. I don't buy wrecks or sell them. Some people are honest believe it or not!

A) If bought at a reputable auction house the buyers fee will cover the fact its not stolen, not insurance write off and not declared also no outstanding finance on the car. Its up to your buyer to get an HPI check for himself if he wants to. However if i was selling cars like BMW Z3 i would HPI it myself and provide potential buyers with the relevant paperwork..its a good selling point.

Car auctions. Is it worth selling your car at them?

Q) I have a Mondeo GhiaX, all the trimmings,56K, and selling at £2000 below list price. Lovely car, tried most avenues for selling but not one buyer wanted to even look at it. Bad time of the year for selling?

A) auto auctions are where cars are sold wholesale. so I would say no do not sell at an auction. Ebay would be a good place to get more exposure for your car. The way to get the most for the thing is to sale it retail which means advertise in the paper, put a for sale sign in the window and wait for the right buyer. good luck

Car Auctions?

Q) What do you need in order to attend a car auction and possibly purchase a car. Like a public one that those rinky dinky dealers go to? Do you need a dealers licsense and do you know how much that would cost in florida? Thanks..

A) Most public auctions don't require any special qualifications, no licenses, or anything like that. If it's public then it's open to the public. Most auctions require that you pay for the vehicle either cash or check and you have three working days to remove the vehicle from the lot. You have to be very careful at these auctions. I've been to a few and some people go crazy at these auctions and bid way over the value of the vehicle. I guess they get caught up in the thrill of the bidding. You can usually get there early and check out the vehicles. Most autions list what they know to be wrong with a vehicle. You can also check out the photos of the vehicles online, for most auctions. Most auctions provide the information three days before the auction starts. Do some homework and shop around and get a general knowledge of the value of these vehicles to educate yourself on what would be a good deal or not. Some of the dealer auctions are better but that requires licenses and most auctions require that dealers be bonded for surety or guarantee for the purchase price before the start of the auction. Hope that helps.

car auctions?

Q) Has anyone been to a car auction? I have seen that you can buy car from $500.00. I am trying to find a Honda and was wondering what they are like and if it is as good as it sounds.

A) Haven't been to an auction in 10 years but here's some stuff I remember.... Although you aren't allowed to drive, you are allowed to start the engine and shift. The bidding gets competitive often times and the winner almost always pays retail. I believe most auctions allow inspections the day prior to the event, so go and write down the cars you're interested in and run the VIN# at Carfax.com and their trade-in value at KBB.com. Don't expect to get any help from the auctioneers cause they sell Retail value KBB only. There is an auction fee of $200 or more, usually. So figure it in to your bid accordingly. Bring a mechanic if you can or anyone who has knowledge of cars. The Cadillac my dad bought almost got in to an accident because the brakes failed as he was leaving the lot. It cost over $500 to fix it. So he ended up paying about $1000 over what he should've. Expect to stay late if you win a bid. They took forever to process all the paper works and prepare the vehicle. We arrived around 8AM and left 5PM. Overall, it was a BAD experience for me and I honestly wouldn't do it ever again.

A) buying a car at an auction is risky.

car auctions?

Q) in st.petersburg,fl

A) There are there kinds of car auctions. Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee. Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high. Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100. Two months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online police auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet . I followed the guide on http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t=usedcar .That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one. Good luck!

Police Car Auctions?

Q) Someone answered one of my questions with a gov't car auction, this just might be the best idea for me, because, I don't have a lot of money. And I would like to get one, before the summer ends, so that I can have my own car and not have to depend on others to drive me around. Can anyone tell me about police car auctions? Are there any draw backs to doing it?

A) With police car auctions, it's a Buyer Beware sale. They guarantee nothing about the car. If you buy it and it's a lemon, too bad. With Gov't surplus, if they state the car is good, and it isn't, they are obligated to take the car back if you don't want it. I know that from co-workers who bought Gov't auction cars and had a bad transmission not listed, he got his money back. There are also Impound cars sold by private towing companies, again, these are Buyer beware sales, no guarantees on the car being good, but you can get some good deals, and some cheap transportation. But you better be prepared for lemonade! LOL.

car auctions in Baltimore, MD?

Q) need to buy a good car, however I do not want to pay the fees to some of these online services that tell you where the auctions are? Are they worth the fees?

A) I live in Laurel, MD and my cousin has bought cars from the DC police auction. Plus, my brother in law has bought a car from a foreclosure/repossession auction in Miami Florida. Both will tell you that it is very difficult to find a reliable primary car at the auctions since you get no history whatsoever on the car. I think that if you search online or read the newspapers they will tell you about the auctions. The police auctions are held monthly. The cars usually go for far less than the KBB value but it may not be worth the time and effort to buy one, have it inspected by a mechanic, find out it has problems and have to sell it and buy another car.

Repossessed Car Auctions?

Q) Are these for real?? I mean I'm looking on some websites, and they are starting some expensive cars like '05 lexus' and '04 corvettes for like $1,000. Is it a scam or is it for real? And what would be the likely-hood of purchasing a car like that at one of those auctions for super cheap.. like under $10,000?

A) you have to have certain credentials to get into most auctions like that. Maybe have to be a dealer. anything to good to be true usually is. a cheap car has alot of miles or abuse or both. they pay a cut rate and then sell them to the public on 100% mark up.

Are seized car auctions worthwhile?

Q) I've heard they're so dominated by dealers, a private buyer looking to buy a car to flip stands little to no chance. Are these auctions a waste of time for someone without the resources of a large dealership?

A) Be very careful, these cars are often thrashed, with maintenance and repairs often neglected, they are hard to test in an auction complex, and the auction houses reports are often wrong, I have seen one car thats report said the trans was perfect, start slipping as the new owner drove out the gate, unless u have someone who is a mechanical genius and can find faults in a car without it running or moving, be prepared for repair bills. When I buy from the auctions, I first consider what I would pay for that model car privately, I then remove the cost of any repairs I can see on the auction car, I then delete another $800 for the cost of replacing a motor or trans, (worst scenario.) and wont bid over that figure. I have found the best way to buy a car for resale is: local papers, you can test drive them, owner has all repair/maintenance records, and are open to offers, takes longer but does increase your profit at the end of the day E-bay, but don't just look at the photos, arrange to inspect the car, stay local, transportation is expensive. The last 2 cars I have bought on e-bay, and am happy with both. Car yards, check their trade ins that they are selling on, but don't buy at their price, last car I bought from a yard they wanted $2000, I could buy a tidy one on the road for $3600, this one needed $1000 worth of work, I offered $1200, after an hour of bartering I got it for my price, spent the $1000 and sold it on for $3800, but did spend 1 month of my spare time getting it ready for sale. I have been buying and selling cars as a hobby for 30 years, there is very little profit to be made, a poor choice can see you selling the car at a loss, be very careful.

Does anyone know of any police car auctions/auctions in Los Angeles?

Q) My car broke down last week and I need/have to get something in a hurry, I heard police car auctions were something I should look into. Also, If you have any tips on what I should look for and how to possible get the best deal. If you know of any other auctions that would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

A) I was in a similar situation and I did some research trying to find seized cars. It turned out that I actually was able to buy a car from the Department of Energy. There are a ton a federal auctions all over the country. According to federalgovernmentsales.com, there are over 15 different government departments that have auctions regularly. I hope this helps.
